Knockhill : Full report

We knew before we arrived at Knockhill for the fifth round of the Metzler National Superstock 1000 championship that we was going to get wet! Free practice and both qualifying sessions were all really wet and loads of people were crashing, so I went as fast as I would without pushing the envelope too much and risking crashing and I managed to qualify on the third row on the grid, in 12th position.
The weather was much kinder to us on race day and whilst warm up in the morning was still a bit damp, the track had dried out in time for the race. I got off the line well and made up a few places into the first corner but unfortunately someone crashed and took about 10 other riders out with them, one of which was me. I picked the bike up to try and restart but couldn’t see what was damaged as it was completely covered in mud! The race got stopped so we rushed to get the bike ready for the restart, which we did, but was a bit late to the grid so we had to start from the back of the pack, which I was pretty gutted about, but still really pleased to have been able to get back on the bike.
I managed to pass a good handful of riders into the first turn and then start picking them off one by one over the course of the race, to finish 11th, which I was really pleased with after it looked like it may have been a DNF after the first attempt of a race start.
The next round is at Snetterton where we will be competing on the new ‘300’ circuit and hoping to score some more championship points.
